Cap d’Agde
On the Mediterranean coast of Occitania in the department of Hérault, approx. 29 km (18 miles) of our holiday residence, you can visit the 14 km (8.5 miles) long beaches of Cap d’Agde. From the Prieuré Saint Martial, you can reach Cap d’Agde by car in only 30 minutes or by bike in approx. 1 hour and 40 minutes.
The beaches of Cap d’Agde are long and wide, the sand is white and fine, and the water is clean and noticeably clear, albeit rather cool. Especially the bay of La Grande Conque is remarkably beautiful: This beach with its coarse-grained, black lava sand, resulted from under-water volcanic eruptions that took place more than 700,000 years ago.
One of the attractions of Cap d’Agde is La Pointe du Cap d’Agde, an accumulation of pointed rock formations that rise from the sea between the beaches of La Grande Conque and La Plagette. And to the west, directly in front of the camping and the naturist village, there is a 2 km (approx. 1.2 miles) nudist beach.
