Mèze
Mèze is a lovely harbour town with approx. 12,000 inhabitants in the department of Hérault. It’s located on the Étang du Thau, opposite to Sète and east of Marseillan and Agde. Marseillan-Plage is approx. 26 km (16 miles) away from Prieuré Saint Martial and you can reach it within approx. 26 minutes by car or 1 hour and 25 minutes by bike.
About 65 millions of years ago, Mèze was inhabited by dinosaurs, as evidenced by dinosaur eggs that were discovered there, and from the 8th century b.C., the first humans arrived as Phoenician sailors to the town.
Today, the inhabitants of Mèze live primarily from oyster farming on the Étang de Thau as well as from viniculture and tourism. Every year in July, there is a music festival in Mèze, the Festival de Thau with African and Afro-American music. And in summer, you can also swim at the beach Plagette on the Étang du Thau.
We particularly love the special charme of the marina of Mèze, where you can stroll leisurely and enjoy some fresh oysters.
