The Resort
The Prieuré Saint Martial in Alignan-du-Vent is a former priory which was built in the 8th century by the monks of a Benedictine order on the site of an old Roman villa. The monks earned their living with the production of silk as well as of rosaries which they made with the seeds of the carob tree.
From that period, only the chapel with its bell tower and the courtyard well were left. In the 15th century, a new chapel (which is still visible today) was built and in the 18th century, the whole priory was extended. During the French revolution, the priory was sold as national property and used for agriculture.
Decades later, when the estate was bought by the current owners of the main house, it was in a rather poor condition, but it was lovingly restored bit by bit and transformed into a magnificent site of calm and relaxation. Currently, the estate has various apartments that are privately owned and used as holiday residences. Some of the apartments are also rented by their owners to holiday guests. A splendid park, inhabited by cheerfully chirping birds, two well-kept pools as well as plenty of parking spaces are available for the co-owners and their holiday guests.
